Mission Statement
The Greater Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to bringing business persons, civic groups, local government and citizens together to advance the economic,
professional, cultural and civic welfare of the community.

History
The Greater Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce was founded on April 30, 1936.

What We Do
The Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce represents over 550 businesses in the greater Royal Oak area. The Chamber offers a wide range of affordable, effective and exclusive member programs and services including popular networking events; business-boosting member-2-member and resident welcome programs; and increased visibility on the web and throughout the community. We also produce four large community events throughout the year. They include the South Oakland Business Expo in March, Royal Oak in Bloom in May, Clay, Glass & Metal Show in June and the Antique & Garage Sale in July. These events, along with many other smaller events during the year, help strengthen the Royal Oak business community and therefore the community as a whole.

The Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce also gives back to the community through The Chamber Scholarship. Each Spring, the Chamber Scholarship Committee contacts counselors at Royal Oak High School and Shrine High School. According to Scholarship Committee Chairman Jackie Galesky, President and CEO of Northwood Credit Union, counselors select 15-20 candidates who then complete the application and interview process.

“Our Scholarship is not based on academics but on leadership qualities,” explained Galesky. “It’s amazing to hear the number of things students are doing in after-school activities as well as in the community. Students with this kind of involvement become the leaders of tomorrow.”

The Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Committee also includes Vonnie Miller, Business Manager at Stagecrafters Baldwin Theatre, and Delores Zakrzewski from Benepro. Three of the scholarships are funded by the Royal Oak Chamber of Commerce while the third scholarship is funded by the Business Women’s Network.
